My 2nd graders, group 4, were very excited when I announced that on Thursday April 18th, we will be skyping with a class from London. This group of my second graders heard that other groups have had a chance to talk to some classes from the USA and Turkey, and were really happy when I told them it was their turn to have a skype lesson with Mrs. Stacey's class from http://www.debeauvoir.hackney.sch.uk/ - school in London.

On Thursday, April 18th 2013. my 6th grade students and I tried out group Skype for the first time. We talked to our friends in Izmir, Turkey and our new friends from Durban, South Africa. However, we couldn't see Ms. Vosloo's class (in South Africa) as her Skype video wasn't working but we exchanged the questions that students prepared and I think we learned something new about how school life looks like in Turkey and South Africa. Today we had another chat with Turkey, but this time with 7th grade class from Eskisehir. Thanks to their school counselor Aylin Silig (read her blog here:http://benimegem.blogspot.com/ and their English teacher Cevher, my 6th grade students got the chance to learn something new about schooling in Turkey. We were specially honoured to be their first Skype friends.
Twitter proved to be a great tool to find a class of native speakers willing to help my students practice their English. Mr.Fritzky's 5th grade class from New Jersey even described the experience from their point of view on their class blog http://kidblog.org/MrFritzkysClass/ Today we had a chance to learn some interesting facts about the tourist attractions near Izmir, Turkey from Mrs.Cetiner's 6th graders. Both classes prepared Powerpoint presentations that we shared via Skype and this was the first time that we tried to share screens so that the other class could see our presentation and us at the same time. Our friends from Izmir learnt about the natural wonders near Nis. On Thursday, 21.03.2013. my 2nd grade - group 1, had their first Skype experience ever. We were very excited because we had a chance to meet Mrs.Cetiner's 2nd grade class from Izmir, Turkey. What was also unusual about this English lesson was that we held it in the library. The kids were thrilled about meeting their peers from Turkey and they had many questions. You can get the glimpse of the atmosphere here: And this is how they saw us: Today my 2nd graders had a chance to meet Mrs.Zimmerman's class from Williamsburg, Virginia and discuss animals and their habitats. Today's English class in 8/3 was somewhat different than the usual because our guests via Skype were Mr.Christensen's 7th grade students. It was a great opportunity for Serbian students to practice their spoken English and learn something new about the American culture.
