What an adventure we had today! Together with Ms. Arin Kress' class from Ohio, my 7th and 8th grade students had a chance to talk to Rachel Power, education specialist who works at NASA Kennedy Space Center in Florida, USA.
This event drew a lot of media attention and apart from our local TV news, we were featured on Serbian National TV News.
Here are the questions that the students prepared:
.) What school/college/university did you finish to be able to work at NASA? What degree(s) do you have?
.) When did you know you wanted to work for NASA? Did someone influence your decision?
.) Could you describe a usual day at work? What do you like most about your job?
.) How do you use math in your job? (How do astronauts in space use math in their jobs?)
.) What are the advantages and disadvantages of your job? Do you work weekends and during holidays?
.) If you had the opportunity, would you go to space? Would you be scared even a little?
.) What personality traits or qualities do you have to have to work at NASA?
.) How can learning about space help humans on Earth?
.) How many people are employed at Kennedy Space Center? What is your favorite part of the visitor complex? Why?
.) What part of the complex do the visitors like the most - the 3D theater or the astronaut training simulator?
.) How many people are monitoring the space shuttle launch from the control room?
.) Is there an age limit to go into space? What physical tests do astronauts have to pass to be able to go into space?
.) Could you describe what the visitors experience during the training simulation?
